The door closed behind Arie with a quiet snick, and Duane lay

staring at the ceiling with his hands beneath his head. He and Arie had

made love, and even though it was after five in the morning, he wanted

to shout it to everyone in the house. The bedroom door opened, and

Arie stepped back inside, carrying a small cloth. After shucking his

boxers, Arie broke into a huge smile and nearly launched himself onto

the bed. The mattress bounced as Arie cleaned him up quickly before

dropping the cloth onto the pile of clothes. Then Arie turned out the

light and snuggled right next to him. “You really are incredible,” Duane

said as he held Arie close, maneuvering Arie so he rested on top of

him, listening to the sounds of the house. He knew from the past few

days that it wouldn’t be long now before the workday on the farm

started.

“No, I’m not. I’m just me,” Arie breathed softly.

“Like I said, incredible,” Duane reiterated and kissed Arie quiet

so he wouldn’t be able to argue.

“Is that how it works? If we disagree about something, you figure

you can kiss me until I stop arguing?”

Duane paused to think for a second. “That works for me,” he

quipped before guiding Arie’s lips to his for another kiss. “I could do

this forever with you.”

“What?”

“Kiss you,” he said as he touched his lips lightly to Arie’s. “Hold

you, sleep next to you. I could do all of it forever. I know that really

isn’t very possible.” Now it was Arie’s turn to kiss away the words, and

he did it with such energy that Duane completely forgot what he was

talking about and simply closed his eyes, letting Arie’s warmth and

sleep wash over him.

Duane woke a few hours later to Arie’s snoring and something

heavy climbing on the bed. Lifting his head, he saw Buster settling

across the foot of the entire bed, the dog’s weight settling on his legs.

“Down, Buster,” Duane said as he moved his legs. The dog looked at
